Testimonial walls fail for a boring reason: the business asks ten happy customers, gets two replies, publishes one and stops. Filling a wall with thirty real quotes means asking far more people than most owners expect, and it helps to know that number before you start rather than losing steam halfway. This planner shows the volume of requests behind your target, so you can decide whether to ask everyone, automate the request, or set a smaller goal.

The math is a simple funnel. Your response rate is the share of customers who actually submit something when asked; your usable rate is the share of those submissions you would put on a public page. Multiplying them gives the yield per request, and dividing your target by that yield gives the number of requests. Months to goal assumes you ask every new customer, and hours of outreach multiplies the request count by the minutes each manual ask and follow up takes you.

How to use this tool

  1. Set the number of testimonials you want on the wall and your honest response and usable rates from past asks.
  2. Enter how many customers you can reasonably ask each month and how long one manual request takes you.
  3. Read the requests needed and months to goal; if the hours look painful, that is the case for automating the ask or shrinking the target.

What the math assumes

  • Every customer you can ask in a month receives exactly one request; the tool does not model repeat asks to the same person.
  • Response rate and usable rate stay constant over the whole campaign.
  • Requests are rounded up to a whole number, so the result is the minimum count that reaches the target on average.
  • Months to goal is request count divided by customers per month and can be a fraction; it does not wait for a calendar month to end.
  • Manual outreach hours include only the minutes you enter per request, not time spent formatting or publishing quotes.

Frequently asked questions

I have no idea what my response rate is. What should I enter?

Ask your next twenty customers and count the replies; that gives you a real rate within a week or two. Until then, run the planner with two or three different rates to see how sensitive your plan is.

Why does the planner need a usable rate separate from response rate?

Not every submission belongs on a public page. Some are one word, some mention private details, some are lukewarm. Separating the two rates stops you from planning around replies you will never publish.

Does asking more customers lower the response rate?

It can, especially if the request goes to people who are not recent or not happy. The planner keeps the rate constant, so if you widen the audience, lower the response rate input to match.
