Most testimonial walls fail quietly. They launch with a handful of vague quotes, no consent records, an embed that slows the page, and no way to tell whether anything changed. This checklist follows the same order as the complete guide at /guide/: ask at the right moment, collect in the right formats, get permission, curate honestly, embed cleanly, handle criticism, and measure. Work through it once for the first launch and again whenever you refresh the wall.

Print it or copy it into your task tracker and tick items off as you go. A few items point to a tool on this site, such as the Review Request Volume Planner at /tools/review-request-planner/ for sizing your outreach and the Testimonial Wall Conversion Lift Calculator at /tools/testimonial-conversion-lift/ for the measurement step. None of the items depend on any particular software; they apply to a hand-built static page just as well as to a dedicated builder.

  • Write down the one page and the one conversion action (signup, purchase, booked call) the wall is meant to influence.
  • Record the current conversion rate and monthly visitors for that page so you have a baseline before anything changes.
  • List the customer win moments that should trigger a request, such as onboarding completed, support ticket resolved, renewal, or milestone reached.
  • Estimate how many requests you need to send to reach your target number of quotes, using the Review Request Volume Planner as a starting point.
  • Draft a short, personal request message from a named person that references the specific win and is easy to decline.
  • Give customers a prompt to react to (what problem did we solve, what surprised you) instead of a blank box.
  • Remove every avoidable step from the collection form: no account creation, no login, no more than a few fields.
  • Decide which formats you will accept (written quote, star rating, short video, screenshot) and which one you will ask for first.
  • Prepare a plain language consent line that states how the name, photo, company, and quote may be displayed.
  • Keep a consent record for every quote you plan to publish, including the date and exactly what the customer approved.
  • Flag any quote that came from a discounted, paid, or incentivized customer so it can be disclosed or excluded.
  • Select quotes that cover different customer types and different benefits rather than ten versions of the same praise.
  • Edit only for length and typos; never change the meaning, and reread each edit as if the customer were checking it.
  • Add attribution detail to every quote you are allowed to show: full name or first name and initial, role, company, photo, or profile link.
  • Choose a layout for the placement (grid, masonry, carousel, or single featured quote) and confirm it reads well on a phone.
  • Pick an embed method: script snippet, iframe, or static HTML rendered at build time, and note the tradeoffs you accepted.
  • Check that the wall loads lazily or below the fold and does not noticeably delay the page it sits on.
  • Confirm the quotes are readable by screen readers and that any carousel can be paused and navigated by keyboard.
  • Write a short, non defensive response template for critical reviews and decide who is responsible for replying.
  • Decide whether you will show ratings below five stars on the wall and document the rule so it is applied consistently.
  • Add review or aggregate rating markup only if the reviews shown on the page match what the markup describes.
  • Set a measurement plan: a split test if traffic allows, otherwise a before and after comparison over similar periods.
  • Put a reminder in the calendar to refresh the wall with new quotes and retire any that no longer describe the product.
